James F. Leal
James brings to the firm over 30 years of experience in commercial leasing, commercial real estate, and business law and became a much valued partner at the firm effective January 1st, 2016. He acts for both developers and institutional real estate clients, and he has extensive involvement in real estate – related litigation matters, including expropriation, arbitration, and appraisal matters. He also acts as counsel for numerous national associations, as well as local not-for-profits and other organizations. James has frequently lectured for the Law Society of Ontario in the areas of business law, real estate law, legal writing, and legal ethics. He has also spoken to the continuing education faculty at Algonquin College on corporate law, and on legal ethics to the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law. James is passionate about being involved in his clients’ business goals, and working towards achieving their objectives. His focus is on building a relationship with his clients. Working closely over an extended period of time, he has the opportunity to gain a profound understanding of his client’s business environment, and is therefore able to offer insightful legal and business advice. James is best described as a problem-solver, assisting his clients to negotiate the legal maze in an ethical manner. He is efficient, practical, and level-headed. James has been involved with music for many years. He co-founded the Ottawa Bluesfest, and is currently on the Board of Directors.
